Friday, June 30th, was the last day of work before summer, which in itself can only be a good thing; however, I began the day with an approved late arrival due to the Germany v Argentina match that morning. As we all know by now, Jens Lehman made millions of Germans as happy as little Mädchens. I was grinning ear to ear.
The next day in Calgary, Kristina & I discovered that our beloved union, the BCTF, came to final agreement with the BCPSEA (aka The Government) and inked a deal giving Kristina & I a 16% raise over 5 years and a $4000 cash bonus. I was grinning from ear all the way around my head, back to the same ear.
Then, upon arriving at Craig & Jennifer's place, I was able to watch the last of the England v Portugal match. With England losing YET AGAIN on penalty kicks, my head became nothing more than lips and teeth. It was the greatest Canada Weekend one could possibly ask for.
But when you're floating on thin air, you'll eventually come crashing down to Earth again. Recall Tuesday afternoon at about 2:17pm. After 1 hour and 28 minutes of regular play -- only 2 minutes from penalty kicks -- Italy managed to score the winning goal that put them in the World Cup Final and Germany in Saturday's consolation final. My day was ruined.
And when today rolled around, my levels of anger and frustration peaked. Although I was happy that France won, I couldn't contain my annoyance with the Portugese players and their constant cheating, diving, and acting. In fact, their worst offender, Cristiano Ronaldo, angered me so much, that I felt compelled to represent my frustration by Photoshopping an image of the little weasel.
There. Now I feel a bit better.
